I have a 14wk old Irish Wolfhound puppy that likes to potty on rugs.? I put a rug outside the back door where abby likes to lay.She would go out the door in the morning and pee on the rug so I threw it away. now when she comes in the house she thinks she is supposed to pee and poop on my rugs. I can stop that by keeping a closer eye on her but she also has a fleece liner in the bottom of her crate that she is peeing and pooping on that at night.
No, no, and more NO. Do not rub the poor puppy's nose in her own waste! That's awful.
Here is a way you can stop her from doing this...Take her out to potty every 15 minutes. Now I know that is a lot, but it will all be worth it, trust me.
Gradually move it to switching it off between 15 minutes and 20 minutes 15, 20, 15, 20, 15, 20. Then, try every 20 minutes. 20, 25, 20, 25, 20, 25. Then every 25 minutes. When you get to the point where you are taking out your puppy 25, 30, 25, 30.....you need to be with her every second. Take her out right when before she goes to sleep, take her out once, maybe even twice in the middle of the night. Switch out the fleece liner for awhile with a puppy pee pad. Scold her by claping once loudly and saying "NO" very loud and sharply. Grab her collar and pull her outside to where you want her to potty.
Hope this helps!
